On July 9, 1985, President Reagan signed the Freedom Coin Act, which authorized the American Silver Eagle program and went into effect on October 1, 1985, with the caveat that no coins could be produced or sold before September 1, 1986. Finally, on November 24, 1986, the first American Eagle silver coin was released, and since then, it has become trendy all over the world.
